Firefox/Chrome. In my constant quest to spend as little money as possible, I recently ran into a fantastic little browser addon called “InvisibleHand”. When shopping online, this addon references a database of prices from the web’s most popular retailers, and lets you know if the item you’re looking at is available elsewhere at a lower price. Once installed, it works via popup notification :
It also allows you to view the prices from other retailers via the “view all offers” button:
As far as I can tell, the prices being compared are just the straight-up retail price – no taxes or shipping are taken into account, so it may still be worth hitting a few of the lower prices on the list just to make sure you’re getting the best deal.
InvisibleHand is a fantastic tool for those bargain shoppers out there who don’t have time to visit every single retail site looking for the lowest price of an item. I’ve tested the addon in the Windows/Firefox and Ubuntu/Chrome combinations. The functionality seems to be identical in both cases.
